Originally located at Penn Field, the tower was badly damaged by a tornado in 1922.

Barely visible over the top of these St. Edwards University structures in 1960, the tower was in use and owned by Woodwards Furniture Works.

And by 1983 the tower had begun to play even less dominant a role in the Austin skyline as development continued and Woodward Furniture Works ceased operations.
